Women experience many stages during pregnancy – specialised chiropractic care can help you to relax, keep comfortable and enjoy the miracle.

Preparing to welcome a new life into the world is an exciting time but along the journey to motherhood there are major physiological changes taking place in your body. Most women gain between 10-15 kg in their pregnancy, extra weight that has to be supported by their spine which can result in backache.

Other reasons why pregnancy may make you ache more than usual is because you are now producing a hormone called relaxin. Relaxin’s purpose is to loosen up your ligaments and joints for the birthing process to allow the baby to pass through your pelvis more easily. The ligaments that support your spine can be affected.

Abdominal muscles called rectus abdominis will separate to make room for the growing uterus and having that bump increasing in size will gradually alter your centre of gravity and make you lean back to compensate. All of these issues can cause backache, pain and inflexibility.

Chiropractic May Help

Chiropractic can help to relieve tension and ease backache as you approach your baby’s birthday. We have special stomach cushions that allow you to comfortably lie on your front, a long forgotten luxury for other pregnant women!

Expectant mothers who have chiropractic adjustments during their pregnancy often find that they feel more flexible and that they can stay active for longer and continue to do the things that they enjoy. A fitter, more toned uterus and surrounding muscles may also reduce the amount of time spent in labour[1].

Chiropractic can also help babies who have been through a traumatic birth or who are unsettled by their arrival into the world.
