What’s the difference between a headache and a migraine?

Whilst some may argue that when having a headache they are actually have a migraine, the symptoms vary! A headache isn’t usually accompanied by other symptoms associated with migraine. Headaches can vary in duration and can be caused by hangovers, infectious illness or even head injuries. On the other hand a migraine sufferer may experience moderate to severe pain usually on one side of the head and experience other symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light and noise. Migraines can last up to 72 hours and triggers can include in lifestyle, and hormonal changes.

 

In Australia there are almost two million migraine sufferers which means that there are more migraine sufferers than there are diabetes, asthma, or coronary heart disease sufferers.

 

Headaches and Migraine can be, for some, very debilitating and can affect both social and working environments.
